Often in music as in life, the essence, the true nature of the message we want to communicate is hidden, even distorted by all the aesthetic device with which we intend to decorate. It is a human impulse. Jazz “modern” musician must know and respect the tradition…

But at same time must be original enough to transgress and desecrate here and there in an elegant and suggestive way, is to immerse himself in the history of the instrument to which it devotes much of his energy, with his study honor those who preceded him in his lineage … but do it without losing freshness and simultaneously enhancing their personal inclination, must also be a sophisticated and innovative composer… but without falling into tricks… the mixture of nuances and special conditions that we believe will make our speech and we apply as a cosmetic it means an equation of so many variables that sometimes ends up being a hieroglyphic speech and try to transmit it leaves us exhausted and disorientated… the we just sprawl over a couch and play a record of Billie Holliday which always saves us. Once I read on the door of a public toilet “only simple things support complications”. Maybe that’s the secret. When we look inside of our musician heart, and remove all unnecessary stuff, we find the seed that germinates everything else: a voice and a melody. The perfect marriage. Reagent.

It’s been many years since I met Victor Correa and I know he assembled this project to sit in topnotch seat to the little miracle of listen Mayte singing some of her favorite songs. Because besides being a musician who fight (and a lot) to improve every day, can sprawl on the couch and be happy running out of arguments to a song.
